photoFinancial aid

  • To apply for financial aid the prospective student must fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This may be done on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov or the paper FAFSA is available at the Financial Aid office and may be returned upon completion. Our Federal school code is 035683.

  • Federal Pell grants
These are awards to undergraduates (not holding a bachelor's degree) who demonstrate financial need. These grants need not be paid back if the student graduates. The maximum award is $5350.

  • Federal Stafford Loans
These are low interest loans made to the student by a lending institution. The maximum amount that a dependent, first year student can borrow is $5500. The maximum amount an independent, first year student can borrow $9500. This maximum is for subsidized and unsubsidized loans combined. Repayment of Stafford loans begins six months after completion or withdrawal form the program. Loans must be repaid.

  • Subsidized federal Stafford loans
This loan is awarded based on need. The Federal Government pays interest due while the student is in school and during any grace periods.

  • Unsubsidized federal Stafford loans
The unsubsidized loan is not awarded based on need; interest accrues from the time the loan is dispersed until it is paid in full. The student has the option of making the interest payments while they are in school. If you choose to allow the interest to accumulate, it will be capitalized. - Capitalization is the process whereby a lender adds unpaid interest to the principal balance of a loan and additional interest will be based upon the higher loan amount.

  • Federal parent loan for undergraduate students: (FPLUS)
Under the Federal PLUS Program, a parent may borrow an amount not to exceed the student's cost of attendance minus any estimated financial assistance the student has or will be awarded during the period of enrollment.
There is no grace period for PLUS Loans. Repayment begins approximately 60 days after receipt of the second disbursement of the loan. Some banks offer a parental deferment for up to a year.
