* Federal Pell grants
These are awards to undergraduates (not holding a bachelor's degree) who demonstrate financial need. These grants need not be paid back if the student graduates.

* Federal Stafford Loans
These are low interest loans made to the student by a lending institution.

* Federal parent loan for undergraduate students: (FPLUS)
Under the Federal PLUS Program, a parent may borrow an amount not to exceed the student's cost of attendance minus any estimated financial assistance the student has or will be awarded during the period of enrollment.

There is no grace period for PLUS Loans. Repayment begins approximately 60 days after receipt of the second disbursement of the loan. Some banks offer a parental deferment for up to a year.
